The Offshore Patrol Vessel has large hull, lightly armed and utilized primarily for offshore patrol of India's exclusive economic zone. Also it is capable of being heavily armed and upgraded to light frigates should the need arise.
The Offshore Patrol Vessel is equipped with sophisticated state of the art of weapons and sensors viz Bofors anti-aircraft gun, Racal Decca 2459 search radar and BEL 1245 navigation radar.
