Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which is a Navratna PSU, has 10 R&D Centers and 20 Production Divisions situated in 7 States at 9 geographical locations. HAL has indigenously designed and developed 17 types of aircrafts and helicopters. In addition, HAL has also produced 14 types of aircrafts and helicopters under license from foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). So far, HAL has produced over 4250 aircraft and over 5400 aero-engines. HAL has also completed over 12000 overhauls of aircraft and over 35800 overhauls of engines.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a Miniratna Category-I Company was incorporated in the year 1970 under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India to manufacture SS11B1 ATGM and supply to Indian Army. A pioneer in the manufacture of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), since, its inception it has been catering to services and grew from single product single customer to Multi product Multi customer. Presently it manufactures three types of ATGMs (Konkurs-M, Milan-2T, and Invar). It also manufactures Akash SAM for IAF and IA. Today BDL has well marked foot print in the Indian Defence market. Till now more than 147000 ATGMs, 2875 AkashSAMs have been delivered to customer along with support system (GSE). In addition to this, Under Water Weapons (Torpedoes) and in House R&D efforts products like CMDS & KLTE/ KMTE (Test Systems) also delivered.

BEML Limited, incorporated in 1964, is a schedule ‘A’ Public Sector Undertaking, under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and after-sales –service of a wide range of products for core sectors of economy such as Coal, Mining, Steel, Cement, Power, Irrigation, Construction, Road Building, Defence, Railway and Metro transportation system & Aerospace.

BEML, under its Defence segment offers High Mobility All-Terrain Vehicles, Recovery Vehicles, Bridging Systems, Mine Ploughs & Mine Clearing systems for Main Battle Tanks, Crew Protection Vehicle, Aircraft Towing Tractors, Aggregates for missiles, Ground Handling / Ground Support Equipment and Aircraft Weapon Loading Trolleys.

BEML is a major player in Mining & Construction (M&C) equipment market competing with global players and holds over 50% market share in Dozer & Dumper market. BEML is the only Indian Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) manufacturing State-of-the-Art Metro Cars competing with Global Players and has market share of over 40% in Metro segment.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is the leading Shipyard amongst all Defence PSU Shipyards engaged in construction of Warships and Submarines. MDL is presently constructing Missile Destroyers, Stealth Frigates and Scorpene Submarines in order to achieve self-reliance in warship production for the Indian Navy.

GRSE, a Mini Ratna Category - I Company, under the administrative control of Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence (MoD), is one of the most diversified nationalised Establishments in the country that has played a very important role in the defence preparedness of India ever since it has been taken over by the Government in the Year 1960. GRSE has successfully developed an array of world-class platforms including Frigates, Missile Corvettes, Survey Vessels, Marine Acoustic Research Ship, Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes, Landing Ship Tanks (Large), Fleet Tanker, Water-Jet Fast Attack Crafts, Landing Craft Utility, Inshore Patrol Vessel, Offshore Patrol Vessel and Hovercrafts. GRSE also exported Warships, an Offshore Patrol Vessel to Mauritius and a Fast Patrol Vessel to Seychelles.

Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., the largest and strategically located shipyard at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is the nation’s premier shipyard engaged in shipbuilding, ship repairs, submarine refits as well as design and construction of sophisticated state-of-the-art offshore and onshore structures. The shipyard, which was under the control of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), was brought under administrative control of Ministry of Defence on 22/02/2010. Since its inception in 1941, HSL has built 200 vessels (including 11 wellhead platforms), repaired about 2000 vessels and refitted 5 Submarines for the defence, maritime and oil sector.

AWEIL is one of the seven (7) new Defence PSUs, incorporated by converting the erstwhile OFB into fully owned Government of India Enterprise. AWEIL has been incorporated under the Companies Act 2013 on 14/08/2021 and commenced its business on 01/10/2021. It comprises eight production units and two non- production units. AWEIL is engaged in production of small arms (Guns), systems and platforms.

Gliders India limited is Government of India Undertaking under the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence (MoD) and was incorporated on 14/08/2021 as a company 100% owned by GOI. Ordnance Parachute Factory is the only production unit under Gliders India limited and was established in the year 1941 at Kanpur (UP), India. Product range of OPF/GIL includes Parachute Items like Man Carrying Parachutes, Seat Ejection / Pilot Parachutes, Supply Drop Parachutes, Aerial Delivery Systems, Brake Parachutes for Aircrafts,  Illuminating Ammunition Parachutes, Recovery System Parachutes, Ammunition Drop Parachutes. GIL also manufactures Sporting Parachutes and rubberised items like Float for K.M. Bridge,  Inflatable Boats and Splint Inflatable.

Troop Comforts limited is a Newly carved out Defence Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Defence Production of Ministry of Defence, Government of India with corporate office at Kanpur. TCL is a conglomerate of 04 manufacturing units and a Training Institute TCLTA. TCL is engaged in production, testing, logistics, Research & Development and marketing of a comprehensive product range of troop comforts items.

It is involved in manufacturing of Life Cycle Clothing (LCC), Extreme Cold Climate Items (ECC), Special Clothing & Mountaineering Equipment (SCME), Ballistic Protection Gears, Supply Drop Equipment (SDE) & Arrester Barrier, Tentages for plain terrain & high altitude areas, Water Storage Equipment, Leather Items and General Stores.

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is a newly formed, fully owned Government company which commenced its operations w.e.f. 01/10/2021. AVNL is engaged in production of Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Infantry Combat Vehicles (Tanks), Logistics Vehicles (Trucks), Artillery Gun Systems and Engines.

MIL, the India’s biggest manufacturer and market leader is engaged in Production, Testing Research & Development and Marketing of comprehensive range of ammunition & explosives for Army, Navy, Air Force, Para-Military Forces and Police Forces.

YIL a fully owned Government of India Enterprise, under Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence has been incorporated under Companies Act 2013 and has commenced it business operations w.e.f. 01/10/2021. YIL is engaged in Production Testing, Logistics, Research & Development and Marketing of Small/ Medium / High calibre Shell Body Hardware for Artillery / Tank Guns, Mortars, Rockets, Pod Assembly, Air Dropping Bombs and Cartridge Cases. Mechanical and Electronic Fuze hardware are also being manufactured. YIL strives for primary objective of “Atmanirbhar”- सशस्त्र सेनाओं का सशक्तिकरण - self-reliance in equipping the Armed Forces with State–of–the-Art battlefield equipment. Yantra India Limited is a conglomeration of 8 production units and Training Institute and Marketing Centre.

India Optel Limited (IOL), a Schedule ‘B’ Public Sector Undertaking is primarily engaged in production of Opto-Electronics Systems for Services and MHA. IOL has been incorporated on 14/08/2021 and it commenced business on 01/10/2021.

IOL is headquartered at Dehradun (Uttarakhand) with two manufacturing units at Dehradun and one unit at Chandigarh. In addition, IOL also operates ‘Ordnance Factories Institute of Learning’ for the training of its own manpower in all cadres and for the training of personnel of its customers in operation and maintenance of the various equipment made by IOL.

IOL is manufacturing Opto-Electronics systems and vision equipments for the land-system platforms & weapons, like battle tanks T-90, T-72, Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-II, Artillery Guns, Naval Guns and Small and Medium Calibre weapons with a clear emphasis on indigenisation. Besides that, based on cable technology, IOL is also into communication business. Products of IOL are multi technology complex opto-electronics systems using thermal imaging technology, image intensification technology, plain day vision technology, day cameras based on CMOS technology and optronic/ telescopic sights mounted on customized gyro-stabilisation systems and controlled using ballistic computers and missile information block/system.

Defence Investor Cell was formed in January 2018, to act as an integrator & facilitator to Defence Entrepreneurs & MSMEs. It acts as a single point of contact to entrepreneurs/industry, to address queries related to policy and investment opportunities in defence production, thereby facilitating investment into defence production sector. Defence Investor Cell (DIC) can be accessed online at https://defenceinvestorcell.gov.in. All services provided by DIC are without any charges.

Since inception, DIC has received a positive response from the industry, particularly from MSMEs, operating in defence sector, which have found it to be of enormous utility in addressing their issues/grievances related to DPSUs/SHQ, apart from other assistance like testing, guidance, industrial license or Make procedures. As on 31/12/2022, 1543 queries/cases were received from the industry, which have been all addressed.

The DIC is ensuring response time of less than 2 days to the queries/cases raised and average time for successfully closing the query/case is less than 7 days. DIC has been receiving positive feedback from Defence industry. As to disseminate the services and assistance it provide to industry, DIC participated as an exhibitor in DefExpo '22 held at Gandhinagar.

Defence Production IT Division (DPIT) was formed in 2018 with the approval of Hon’ble Raksha Mantri to implement IT related initiatives in DDP and DPSUs. The implementation of IT initiatives for the Department of Defence and its attached/subordinate offices and inter-services organizations and Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare were also subsequently given to the DPIT division. The division is responsible for the development and maintenance of the websites, dashboard and portals, such as DDP Website, DDP Dashboard, Srijan Defence Portal, DOMW Portal, Aero India, DefExpo, etc. and social media.
