The HAL Do-228 / H-228 is a multi-role light transport aircraft developed to meet a
broad range of civil and military operational requirements. With a certified seating
capacity of 19 passengers, the platform is suitable for utility and commuter transport,
air-taxi operations, logistics support, and specialised mission roles, including
maritime surveillance.
The aircraft is characterised by proven Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL)
capability, enabling operations from short and semi-prepared airstrips. This
capability, combined with its robust airframe and fuel-efficient turboprop engines,
makes the platform particularly suitable for deployment in remote, island, coastal, and
hilly regions, as well as under diverse climatic conditions. The Do-228 / H-228 aircraft is configured as a versatile multi-mission platform
capable of undertaking a wide spectrum of roles. These include maritime
surveillance, pollution monitoring, troop and utility transport, aerial survey, search and
rescue operations, commuter transport, calibration of airport navigation and
communication aids, remote sensing, casualty evacuation, executive transport, and
cargo and logistics support.
The platform incorporates a modern glass cockpit, state-of-the-art avionics, and a
high-comfort cabin, enhancing operational efficiency and crew situational awareness.
The aircraft is powered by fuel-efficient turboprop engines, providing high endurance
and operational range, and is capable of operating from semi-prepared runways,
supported by reverse thrust capability.
In its military and special mission configurations, the aircraft can be equipped with
advanced Maritime Patrol Radar, Electro-Optical and Infra-Red (EO/IR) sensor
systems, and an integrated Mission Management System (MMS). The military variant
is provisioned with optional under-wing hard points to enable carriage of missionspecific payloads.
